Characteristics of the breed

The Cane Corso (or Corso) is a serious breed for a person who takes seriously the fact of having a dog as a companion and who can offer him firmness and love so that he becomes a superb dog.

It is a strictly family dog, do not expect him to become friends with everyone, he has no interest in other people or other animals outside his family, but the members of the latter will have his loyalty and protection.

In dog food, there are many ranges of different qualities. It’s not always easy to find your way between labels, marketing and “on the spot”. We will try to see more clearly together. Already, it must be said that a Cane Corso is a carnivore so he must eat meat. The first thing to do is to look at how much protein there is.

It is interesting to find around 35% protein (it is listed on the analytical sheet). A large percentage will mean there is a lot of meat in the bag. This is really important for the growth of the cane Corso puppy. Then to optimize the choice of the brand of kibble for Corso cane there should be no cereals (wheat, rice, corn …). Right now, we think the cereal is not very good for dogs, or that it is useless apart from filling the bag with kibble.

The health of the cane corso:

This beautiful big watchdog, unfortunately, has some weaknesses in terms of health, especially on the side of his joints. It is important to know the main hereditary diseases or other health problems that threaten it in order to detect and treat them more easily. Here is a non-exhaustive list:

o Allergies
o Cancer
o Hip dysplasia
o Elbow dysplasia
o Ectropion
o Entropion
o Epilepsy
o Prolapse of the nictating gland (cherry eye)
o Cardiac disorders (cardiomyopathy, degenerative valve disease)

To put the odds on your side, it is very important to choose a responsible breeder who tests the health of his breeding dogs beforehand. He should be able to give you the results of these tests and offer you a solid health guarantee on the puppies. Finally, stay away from puppy mills and be skeptical if you come across a dog breed sold at an abnormally low price.
